Ashley Lazarre Dissertation Defense Representation of Black women in the media globally has historically been focused on trauma, rooted in controlling images of harmful stereotypes. However, over a decade ago Instagram emerged at a critical period in Black Women’s consciousness where they are centering healing in their lives known through the hashtag as #inmyhealingera. Social media became a place where marginalized groups share vulnerable stories about their self-transformation healing generational trauma in their lives. Their stories represent comprehensive and intersectional approaches to address their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being reclaiming their wellness and wholeness in ways that are self-directed, community-centered, and spiritually grounded.
